That little voice on your shoulder
“I feel like I’ll never understand what settings to use.”
“I’ve already watched hours of YouTube and every teacher says something different.”
“Maybe I’m not clever enough to learn all this stuff.”
“I’m never going to be as good as other people. What’s the point?”
I know her really well. She sat on my shoulder for years. If you’re hearing this person right now, you’re exactly who I made this workshop for.
WHY I TEACH THIS
“Why are you using it on priority mode?”
I’d had my camera for about a year. I was working at a resort in the Maldives, and every evening I took it down to the beach in case the sunset was amazing.
One evening a colleague who talked about photography constantly asked if he could have a look at my camera. He turned it over, saw the mode dial, and asked me that question. He didn’t offer to teach me. He just handed it back.
I felt so small and so stupid. Honestly, I think that one moment set my learning back by a long way.
In hindsight, that was his ego, not my ability. So this workshop is what I wish someone had offered me back then: a simple explanation, from someone who’s been there, with no showing off.
I’m not a techie photographer and I’m not a gadget geek. I’m an ocean lifestyle photographer based in Australia, and I taught myself the slow, lonely way. If I can get this, you absolutely can too.
I’m here with you, every step of the way.
